Learning at Every Age: Adult Education Graduation 2026
Around 50 students from VSB’s Adult Education marked an important milestone on Friday, June 12. Students, families, friends and staff gathered at South Hill Education Centre to celebrate the 2026 graduation ceremony.
Adult Education programs support learners at many stages of life. Students build confidence, strengthen skills and work toward personal, academic and career goals.
The ceremony took place in the South Hill gymnasium. It recognized the work and commitment of students who returned to school, explored new opportunities and reached graduation. For many graduates, the path to this moment was paved by determination, resilience and the support of educators, staff, family, friends and classmates.
The celebration also highlighted the important role of school communities in creating welcoming and supportive learning environments. Staff, families and guests came together to recognize graduates’ hard work and the many ways students take to reach graduation.
Hollie Jean Williams, principal at South Hill, addressed the graduates with a congratulatory message. She acknowledged the hard work it took for each student to reach this milestone and reinforced that learning continues throughout life.
“We have students today ranging from 16 all the way to 60, 65, 70 and 75,” says Williams. “It is never too late to return to school.”
Cheers erupted from the crowd as students crossed the stage one-by-one. Some graduates shared they believed “this day would never come.”
While they entered as adult learners, they left as accomplished secondary school graduates. Several students also received scholarships and awards for their achievements, supporting them in the next stage of their journeys.
The ceremony was a reminder that setting goals and reaching them can happen at any age.
Congratulations to the Adult Education Class of 2026!
