Introduction

Creative Writing 12 is a 4-credit elective English course that counts towards the graduation portfolio in British Columbia high schools. Creative Writing 12 focuses on polishing student’s ability to write with expression and ingenuity, develop a writer’s voice and to experiment with a variety of forms: short story, descriptive persuasion, poetry (traditional and contemporary), film scripts (one scene), multi-media texts and two essays. Students will create a final portfolio of their work which can be used as evidence of creative competencies for future programs. Please note that this course requires students to carefully read feedback and editorial comments to improve the second and third drafts of their work.

The focus of this course is creative expression.

Where does this course fit?

  • Prerequisites: Completion of a Grade 11 English Language Arts course
  • Graduation Status:  Grade 12 elective for graduation
  • It is not mandatory. However, students are encouraged to research university and college requirements to see where this course may be used in their academic portfolio. (Note: The mandatory course is English Studies 12).
