Science 9
Science 9 Course Overview
Big Ideas
Cells are derived from cells. | The electron arrangement of atoms impacts their chemical nature. | Electric current is the flow of electric charge. | The biosphere, geosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere are interconnected, as matter cycles and energy flows through them. |

Introduction
This course introduces students to the exciting world of electrical energy, the wonders of how different organisms reproduce, the life-sustaining interconnections of Earth’s spheres, and the amazing properties of chemical elements and compounds. Interspersed in the lessons are various assignments and quizzes that they must complete for each module. All the course assignments have similar to the Start Up assignment format. Students must download an assignment file as a Microsoft Word Document. Open the file using Microsoft Word and type answers, or if a question asks, insert a picture into yellow boxes. When complete save it as a .doc or .docx file and upload it to the appropriate assignment submission folder.
Where does this course fit?
- Prerequisites: Completion of Science 9
- Follow-up Course: Science 10
Course Materials
- The lessons will be delivered through a resource called “Study Forge”. Through Study Forge, students will have access to fill-in-the-blank notes, videos and interactive activities to help them learn the material.
Brief Outline
Unit | Description |
Physics | This unit covers a series of topics that give students a foundation for understanding of electrical charges behaviour, electrical circuits, generation and consumption of electrical energy. |
Biology | It embraces a range of topics, moving from the microscopic level (the study cellular processes of reproduction and how these relate to tissues, organ systems in organisms) to the macroscopic level (the study of different ways of reproduction and contribution of reproduction to the variety of life on Earth). |
Earth Science | It studies interactions cycle matter through Earth’s spheres, supply energy connections and sustainability. |
Chemistry | Students will examine how atomic theory explain patterns in the periodic table, how elements combine to form compounds, names and formulas for compounds. |
