Introduction
This is an introductory photography course, which means that you do not need any experience. You will view instructive videos and will take photos and sharpening your story telling skills. You will be required to keep a photo journal with descriptions and reflections of your photos and what you have learned.
Where does this course fit?
- Prerequisites: A Grade 10 student or Photography 10 is recommended
- Graduation Status: Elective for graduation
Course Materials
- All instructional materials are provided in the course online.
- You will need a digital camera. A mobile camera will work as well.
Brief Outline
Unit | Description |
1. Photograph Myths | You will discover photographic myths that you already know and those that you do not. |
2. Camera | You will discover the variety of digital cameras that are available to use in this course. |
3. Lens | In this unit you will look at how depth-of-field can alter a photograph. There are a variety types of lenses, and you will discover how they differ. |
4. APS vs Full Frame | You will be comparing full framed and cropped framed (APS) cameras. Do you know which type of camera you have and what it does? |
5. Exposure | Exposure is essential to a good photograph. You will be discovering how shutter speed and aperture are very important to a good photograph. |
6. Focus | Images may not be sharp or clear enough and therefore you will see how to focus properly. This unit will tackle the things that are important for focusing. |
7. Light | Light is very important for photographers. Without light, there would be no photographs. In this unit you will discussing light and the different types of light and how it affects your photos. |
8. Composition | In this unit you will look at how your photographs and discuss their composition. In this unit you will discover there are a number of things that will address the composition of your photograph. |
9. Camera Accessories | You will decide which photography accessories best suite your needs. |
